Happy Valley Reservoir, constructed between 1892 and 1897 as part of South Australia’s early water supply network, now sits quietly within a landscape of walking trails and dense vegetation. In recent days, the reservoir has become the focus of an active investigation following reports that two teenage girls were last seen entering the walking trails during the late afternoon. Witness statements suggest the pair were moving along the lower track toward the tunnel area shortly before sunset. At the time, nothing about their presence appeared unusual to other visitors in the area.
Concern was raised later that evening when the girls failed to return home. Initial searches of the trail system revealed several items believed to belong to them, including a mobile phone, a bracelet, and a backpack discovered near the tunnel entrance. Investigators also documented scuff marks and disturbed gravel along the path, indicating recent movement through the area. Inspection of the phone led to the discovery of recorded footage of the girls' last known movements.
We are requesting anyone with auxiliary high-altitude photography or surveillance footage from the night of the 14th to come forward.
